LEWISTON – A 3-year-old child struck by a car Saturday night on Walnut Street escaped without serious injury.

The child, who was walking along the side of the street with his baby-sitter, darted out in front of a vehicle driven by Josh Stevens, 18, of 175 Pettingill St., Lewiston. According to Lewiston police Lt. James Minkowsky, no charges were filed against Stevens.

The young boy was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was later released with only bumps and bruises.

“Luckily, Stevens was driving at a low speed of 10-15 miles per hour,” Minkowsky said. “The boy’s injuries could have been quite serious if the vehicle was going any faster.”
