FRYEBURG – Irene Bertha Michaud, 83, of Bridgton, died Friday, Oct. 13, at Fryeburg Health Care Center.

She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 17, 1923, the daughter of John and Alice Lavoie. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1941. She was active as a planner for reunions, as well as joining with many of her classmates for a lunch on the second Tuesday of each month.

She was a nurturing mother of two children, a friend to their friends, loving mother-in-law and grandmother and a great friend to the many people whom she met throughout her life. She also was a Girl Scout troop leader. She was a well-rounded athlete, participating in horseback riding on her horse, social dancing, skiing, hiking, canoeing, fishing, camping and hunting. She cared for her parents in their later years.

Irene and Fernand J. Michaud were married on Jan. 3, 1942. They lived Lewiston until 1984, when they moved to the home they built on Pleasant Mountain in Bridgton. It was here she spent her golden years amongst friends who shared her passion and appreciation of nature.

Irene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fern Michaud; a daughter, Carolyn Michaud and her husband, Louis Fleming, of Fairfield, Calif.; a son, Robert Michaud of Bridgton; and two grandchildren, Eryn Michaud of San Francisco, Calif., and Marc Michaud of Orem, Utah.
