NORWAY – Betty Nolte Van Nest died Oct. 14 in Norway.
She was born in Garwood, N.J., Dec. 23, 1911, the daughter of Bernhard Nolte and Mary Kreinhop Nolte. She married William S. Van Nest on Nov. 11, 1939.
She was an indefatigable cookie and pie maker, applesauce chef, skier, a lover of winter and aficionado of snow storms, guardian of the bird feeder and of the family’s stories. She traveled to Europe and the Middle East, but was at home in Maine. The guiding light has lost a fan.
She is survived by her sons, William R. Van Nest of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Robert Van Nest of Norway and David Van Nest of Harrington; her daughter, Mary Ellen Bills of Georgetown, Texas; six grandchildren, Renee of North Carolina, David of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Kendl of Orlando, Fla., Carl of Norway, Elan of Georgetown, Texas and Leah of Copan Ruinas, Honduras; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, her four brothers and a sister.
