JASPER, Ga. – Pauline Moore of Jasper, Ga., formerly of Lewiston, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, at her home.

She was born in Lewiston, May 10, 1942, the daughter of the late Antonio and Zelda Cloutier Martel.

She attended elementary school at Holy Cross School, graduated from St. Dominic High School, and earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Maine at Portland.

She was very active with Holy Cross Church. She was a dedicated singer in the choir, taught catechism classes for youth and was a member of the Children of Mary.

For many years, she was employed at Northeast Bank in Lewiston. While in college, she assisted residents to improve conditions in low income neighborhoods in Portland.

An avid skier, Pauline was a member of the ski patrol at Sugarloaf.

She loved Maine. She also wanted to experience the vast richness of the world. This desire led her to Georgia as part of the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) anti-poverty initiative.

There she met and married Matthew Moore from Pasadena, Calif.

The Moores settled in Jasper, Ga., raising four children and continuing their anti-poverty and community improvement efforts.

She frequently returned to Maine to visit family and friends and to enjoy the natural beauty of Maine. She passed her love of Maine to her children and opened their eyes to the wonders of the world beyond their home.

After a three-year battle with breast cancer, Pauline passed away at home in the presence of her Georgia and Maine family.

Surviving are her husband, Matthew Moore of Jasper, Ga.; sons and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Kristan Moore of Atlanta, Ga., Christopher Moore of Washington, D.C., and Michael Moore of Jasper, Ga.; a daughter, Anna Marie Moore of Jasper, Ga.; sisters, Rita Dionne of Wales and Claire LeBlanc of Lewiston; and a grandson, Matthew Moore of Atlanta, Ga.
