FARMINGTON – Who at the Franklin County Animal Shelter does not know the movie “Cast Away” with Tom Hanks? Deserted from society, his only friend, the only thing keeping him sane, is Wilson.

Shelter staff has their own Wilson, who will befriend them even when times look bleak. He is a handsome American Staffordshire terrier mix, also known as a pit bull.

Most people are aware of the breed, but most people only hear the horror stories told in the news. Most pit bulls are loyal to their families, and that is something that is misunderstood about this breed.

They were always bred to be good with people. Wilson is no exception. He loves to be with people. Wilson needs a little training and would be wonderful with a family who would teach him a few manners. He knows the basic commands.

Staff said Wilson is loyal – a best friend through thick and thin.

New dogs at the shelter include a male hound mix from Jay, female shepherd mix from Farmington, male shepherd mix from Industry, male malamute mix from Starks, female hound mix from Strong and a male lab mix from Jay.
