The Lewiston city administrator is running around in a tizzy again. If it is not the disastrous tax revaluation earlier this year, then it is the threatening of city employee jobs and cancellations of projects in Lewiston. This does not sound like good judgment coming from Jim Bennett, whose job is to keep the city running smoothly. As administrator, Bennett should not have put the “cart in front of the horse.” You do not implement a budget months before you finalize funding for it.
Voting on the rain tax or “excuse-me fee” in October, when it is supposed to subsidize the fiscal budget passed during early summer, makes no sense. Maybe it’s time Bennett steps down so the city is not in a constant uproar from threatening employees with their livelihood and asking for more cuts on a budget that was already passed.
Kudos to the people of Lewiston for standing up one more time on taxation issues. Hey wait, isn’t that what the Taxpayer Bill of Rights is all about?
People should keep TABOR in mind when voting in November. Lewiston’s property revaluation is right around the corner.
