AUBURN – State fire marshals are investigating a Saturday afternoon house fire east of Washington Street.
The fire, which appears to have started on the second floor of 220 Station Road, destroyed that entire floor according to Auburn Fire Captain Victor Matthew.
“But we were fortunate,” he said. “We had a good water supply fairly handy and we were able to knock it down quickly enough.”
He estimated damage at between $40,000 and $50,000. There were no injuries reported and Matthew said the house was empty by the time fire crews arrived.
The call to Auburn fire came in at 4:47 p.m., and last unit cleared at 7:43 p.m.
Auburn sent its full complement – three pumper trucks and tower, rescue and command vehicles. They were joined by crews and trucks from Mechanic Falls, Poland and Minot.
Matthew said the cause was still under investigation.
