I don’t understand why people are upset about the runoff fee. Whether it’s called a “tax” or a “fee” is immaterial. Cost has gone up for everything, why shouldn’t it cost more to run city government? As a property owner I would be assessed $30 per-year, which calculates to $2.50 per month. That’s less than the price of a latte!

Another big plus is the facilities that are usually property tax-exempt, like Bates College, the hospitals, churches, city buildings, etc., would also bear the burden. I’m all for that.

Come on, wake up. Don’t allow these last-minute do-gooders succeed with a petition to satisfy their political agenda.
