LISBON – A 26-year old Monmouth woman, Shaylainia Smart,of Blue Road, was listed in critical condition Saturday night at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, following an single-car crash on upper Main Street in Lisbon Falls earlier in the day.

According to Lisbon Police Sgt. Patrick Gagnon, Smart’s 7-year-old son was seriously injured in the afternoon accident, but he said he did not know the child’s name, and no information was available at either local hospital.

Her 5-year-old son, whose name also was not available, was taken to the hospital, but suffered only minor injures, Gagnon said.

According to the officer, Smart was driving in a southerly direction on Main Street, about a quarter-mile north of Gould Road, when her car veered off to the left and slammed into a large pine tree, pinning her in the front seat. Firefighters, using the jaws of life extrication device, had to cut the roof off the car to free her, Gagnon said.

The three occupants of the car were all wearing seatbelts.

Smart’s 1990 Plymouth Acclaim was demolished in the 3:55 p.m. accident, which remained under investigation Saturday night.
