Auburn – Police were cautioning area residents to lock their cars Sunday night after a string of burglaries over the weekend.
Approximately 30 vehicles were ransacked throughout Auburn on Friday and Saturday nights, according to Lt. Tim Cougle.
The break-ins occurred between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. both nights.
“All of the vehicles that had property stolen from them were left unlocked,” Cougle said. “None of the cars were actually forcibly entered.”
Cell phones, iPods, other small electrical devices and loose change have been reported stolen by vehicle owners.
“Anything they can get their hands on is subject to being taken,” Cougle said.
The thefts were not contained to a specific area, but they seem to be occurring on quiet side streets where there is less vehicle traffic, he added.
Residents should keep an eye out for suspicious and unfamiliar individuals in their neighborhoods, he said. They should also remember to lock car doors and refrain from leaving valuables in their vehicles.
“These crimes can be prevented,” he said.
