I’ve never gotten over being too young to be part of the 1960s. I always wanted to be passionate and idealistic about issues and candidates. Then came President Richard Nixon and Watergate, and now President George W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Vice President Dick Cheney and Rep. Mark Foley. I want my children to have hope for the future, and believe that “one man/one vote” can still change the world.
Seth Berry moderated an elementary school presentation of an 18th-century town hall meeting to teach children the value of the voice of one man and his vote. My sons dressed in their colonial costumes, stood and gave their speeches in Bowdoinham Town Hall, and people could see they understood.
Berry has inspired me to have hope in a candidate again because of his enthusiasm and integrity. I can trust him with the futures of my children.
