In seeking to learn more about Chandler Woodcock’s program if elected governor, I sought information on his Web site. I read with interest the section titled: “Jobs and the Economy.”

One campaign promise especially caught my eye. In it, the candidate would “Introduce legislation which will conform our tax law with federal statute, especially as it relates to investments.”

No wonder the Republican Governors’ Association down in Washington, D.C., is shoveling gobs of money into Woodcock’s television advertisements. If elected, Woodcock promises to introduce legislation to enact tax cuts for the very rich, just as the Bush administration and a Republican Congress have already done nationally. Those cuts constitute a welfare program to support the lavish lifestyle of those at the top.

Who makes up the revenues lost by such tax breaks? Well, the working people of this state, of course. Experts tell us that even though the national economy is strong and growing, working people have not benefited from these gains. Who has benefited from this growth? The rich, of course.

Give the rich the tax break they so richly deserve. Vote for Chandler Woodcock!
