LEWISTON – Wilma Angie Bowie, 90, of Durham, died Sunday, Oct. 22, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.
She was born in East Auburn, on March 6, 1916, the daughter of Blanche and Charles Gurney. She was a member of the Androscoggin Chapter 165 O.E.S. and a life-member of Casco Chapter 160 of Freeport.
She married Ermund William Bowie of Durham on March 24, 1931. She lived with her husband on a farm in Durham and raised 10 children. She was a hard worker, always at her husband’s side. She lived alone for the past 22 years in a small ranch located on a parcel of the farm property they once owned. Her children, family and friends will always remember her amazing and positive affirming nature.
She learned to drive at the age of 65. We will think of her when we smell apple pie baking or eat raspberry jam. We will remember her compassion for others, her love of the Red Sox and her can-do attitude. She was a fighter until the end.
She is survived by six of her children, Roland Bowie, and daughter-in-law, Beverly Bowie, of Freeport, Willard Bowie, and daughter-in-law, Sandra Bowie, of Durham, Kathleen Lowe, and son-in-law, Peter Lowe, of Durham, Sharon Huntley, and son-in-law, Glenn Huntley, of Hebron, Paul Bowie, and daughter-in-law, Linda Bowie, of Durham and Sidney Bowie of Mechanic Falls; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ermund William Bowie in 1984; two sons, Arnold Bowie in 1991 and Lawrence Bowie in 2002; and two daughters, Beverly Spaulding in 2004 and Frances Brown this year.
All who knew her will miss her. We love you!
