DIXFIELD – The deadline for submitting nomination papers for an open seat on the Board of Selectmen passed Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. with no one filing for it.

Town Clerk Vickie Carrier said she doesn’t remember that ever happening before.

Former Finance Committee member Joanne Carver and Emergency Management Director Geoff Lowe had taken nomination papers out last month. Neither returned them.

The term to be filled is that of former selectmen’s Chairman Tony Carter, who resigned last month to take a job out-of-state. His term expires in June 2007.

With no one running for the seat, Carrier said the remaining board of Chairwoman Bettina Martin, Vice-Chairman Brad Dyer, Raymond Carlton and Brenda Turbide will continue conducting the town’s business without a fifth member until the annual town meeting election in June.
