“TABOR” stands for “take away basic, ordinary rights,” like the right to a decent education, the right to adequate health care, the right to be safe, the right to spend your golden years peacefully.
There are two clues that the tax cap is a lousy idea: the only state to ever enact the Taxpayer Bill of Rights was Colorado, and last November, citizens there voted to suspend it, after years of wreaking havoc on the state’s well-being. And the promoter of the recent tax cap initiative here in Maine was later found to be a crook – that tax cap was wisely voted down by the people or Maine. Let’s hope these same good people reject Question 1.
Let’s also hope that the Maine Legislature and the people of Maine take effective steps to address the legitimate concerns regarding state expenditures. On Election Day, vote no on Question 1.
