Mt. Blue Voices book appearances

FARMINGTON – The Mt. Blue Voices, an a capella vocal ensemble from Mt. Blue High School, are preparing for performances throughout this school year. The 15 student musicians who make up the group are rehearsing a variety of songs that will entertain audiences of all types. In a typical year the Voices perform up to 30 times at school and community events across the state.

Director Dennis Hayes has filled the ensemble’s repertoire with songs from each decade of the second half of the 20th century. Each decade will be represented. Some of songs that everyone will recognize are Petula Clark’s “Downtown,” Peter, Paul and Mary’s “I Dig Rock and Roll Music,” the Guess Who’s “No Time,” a couple of Beatle hits and Eric Clapton’s “Change the World.”

The members selected after auditions last May are Rylee Doiron, Searach Ramu, Molly Flanagan, Hannah Sloane-Barton, Kelly Greene, Kaija Fellman, Elisabeth Stacioff, Abby Buckland, Sarah Leopold, Jake Smith, Ben Swain, Patric Brophy, Erik Mason, James Rossi and Jonah Roberts.

“This is a very talented group of high school singers. We have a lot of experience this year, with 12 of last year’s group returning. Rylee and Jake are our senior leaders and Erik represents the freshmen class. Jonah is a sophomore and the remaining 11 are juniors,” said Hayes.

Flanagan, a new member, said, “Whenever I heard the group perform last year, I would be blown away. When on stage everyone looks so happy. From the audience I felt like each singer was just having the time of their life. I’m so excited to be a part of the excitement.”

The Voices are booking performances. Hayes notes that because the ensemble does not require a piano and can work in just about any space, the Voices are able to provide live music in just about any venue.

Organizations and events looking for vocal entertainment for a meeting, party or concert should call Mt. Blue High School at 778-3561 or contact Hayes directly. The Mt. Blue Voices do not have a fee for appearances, but donations are welcome.
