JAY – Parents of an eighth-grade student are keeping their child home from school for the time being after a fellow student was accused of terrorizing others.

William Taylor said he plans to seek a restraining order against the 12-year-old boy, who made threats to “kill” other students on Oct. 13, to keep him away from his daughter.

Taylor said he and his wife are not the only parents keeping children home.

Jay Middle School Principal Scott Albert called the family, Taylor said, and offered to put Taylor’s child and others being kept home in a different wing of the school than where the boy accused of making the threats is being schooled.

The boy was suspended for five days but returned to school Monday.

He has been charged by police with terrorizing.

School officials followed policy and procedures that require a suspended student to return to school with an action plan to prevent a similar incident from recurring.

Taylor said about five children have been kept out of school since Tuesday.

Taylor said he and his wife, Mercy, are still considering Albert’s option but, “I don’t like it,” he said.

In the meantime, they are picking up what schoolwork they can so that their daughter doesn’t fall behind.
