AUBURN – An 85-year-old woman died Sunday, two days after she was involved in traffic crash on Center Street.

Police said Gertrude T. DeSanctis of Schooner Estates was the passenger in a car that was struck by a pickup truck Friday afternoon, around 1 p.m., near Stetson Road.

DeSanctis was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she died two days later.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police said DeSanctis was the passenger in a Chevrolet 4-door driven by Betty J. Martel, 85, of Lewiston, when the car was struck from behind.

Martel was treated for cuts and other injuries suffered in the crash, police said. The driver of the pickup truck, 46-year-old Daniel S. Sirois of Rumford was not hurt in the crash.

Police are still investigating what caused Sirois to drive his 2006 pickup into the back of Martel’s car. According to a police accident report, it was raining and the roads were wet at the time.
