Accidents

• Oct. 21, 1:15 a.m., Jacob Gallant, 33, of Rumford and Exeter, N.H., was driving a 1996 Toyota pickup truck south on Maple Street, when he struck a legally parked 1992 Nissan pickup truck registered to Terrance Smith, 46, of Rumford. The Nissan was shoved into another legally parked vehicle, a 2006 Chevy pickup truck, also registered to Smith. Impact shoved this truck forward and moved the truck bed into the cab. Additionally, a piece from one of the three trucks struck Smith’s home at 327 Maple St., causing minor damage to a shutter.

After slamming into the Nissan, Gallant’s truck spun 180 degrees and landed on the driver’s side. Gallant, who suffered minor cuts on his hands and an arm, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence (second offense), refusal to submit to a breath test, and driving to endanger. He was denied bail due to his intoxication level and noncooperation, and taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris.

Damage to Gallant’s Toyota was estimated at $5,000; to the Nissan, $4,000; and to the Chevy, $4,500.

Incidents

• An investigation into a counterfeit $10 bill taken in by Franklin Savings Bank on Oct. 23, was turned over to the U.S. Secret Service, which routinely pursues bogus currency cases.
