Bottle drive

PERU – A bottle drive for Danny Litalien, who has cancer, is under way. Family and friends have prepared for a trailer to be set up at the Peru Elementary School for residents to leave bottles and cans to help Litalien. The trailer will remain at the school until it is filled.

Round table

BETHEL – Wayne DuPlessis, Bethel therapist, will present a round table discussion on depression, anxiety and seasonal affective disorder from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Crescent Park School.

DuPlessis will facilitate a discussion and present information on the three mood disorders.

He said the disorders affect a large portion of the general population at one time or another. He will discuss the ways in which people can minimize symptoms or minimize the degree to which symptoms impact their daily lives.

The workshop is part of the “To Your Health” series presented this fall by Western Mountains Senior College and SAD 44 Adult Education in collaboration with the Bethel Family Health Center.

Other programs in the series include “Finding Balance Through Your Eyes, Tail and Toes” by Betsey Foster, MPH, on Nov. 4; “The Power of Laughter” by Carol Emery, MS, on Nov. 18; and “The Art of Belly Dancing” by Janet Willie, LMT, on Dec. 9.

The public is invited and admission is free.

Class canceled

RUMFORD – The line dance class scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Methodist Church, Linnell Street, has been canceled.

Kids’ activities

MEXICO – Preschool story and craft hours at the Mexico Public Library at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, will include stories for Halloween. They will include “The Berenstain Bears go on a Ghost Walk” by Stan and Jan Berenstain; “The Fierce Yellow Pumpkin” by Margaret Wise Brown; “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet” by Diane deGroat; “Boo!” by Robert Munsch; and “Big Pumpkin” by Erica Silverman.

Haunted hayride

BUCKFIELD – A haunted hayride will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28, at the Buckfield Downs Racetrack, Route 117. Admission is $5 a person or $25 a family. The ride is sponsored by the Buckfield High School senior class.

Trick or treat

RUMFORD – Children, age 12 and under, are invited to trick or treat at the Rumford Grange 115 in Rumford Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Hunter’s breakfast

MEXICO – A hunter’s breakfast will be held from 4:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, behind the Mexico Town Hall. The menu will include eggs, baked beans, biscuits, bacon, sausage, pancakes and beverage for $7 a person. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Mexico Recreation Park.

School craft fair

RUMFORD – The Rumford Elementary School craft fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the school. There will be jewelry, knitwear, tote bags, wooden crafts, jams, jellies, pickles, holiday crafts and unusual crafts. Refreshments and lunch will be available. The school will also have raffle items and children’s crafts. Proceeds will benefit the Rumford Elementary PTO.

Hallow’s Eve

RUMFORD – Children of SAD 43, ages 3 to 7, and their parents are invited to a Hallow’s Eve Celebration from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at Rumford Elementary School. Halloween games, songs, stories, mask-making and crafts, as well as goodies and prizes, will be available.
