FARMINGTON – Herbert C. “Pete” Durrell, 84, of Farmington, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Edgewood Manor Rehab and Living Center, where he had been a resident for the past six years.
He was born March 25, 1922, in Farmington, a son of the late Loren and Ida (DeJay) Durrell. He was educated in Farmington schools.
Pete served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at the Mallory Farm, Ralph Goodwin Plumbing, was a truck driver for the Farmington Coca Cola Bottling Co., worked 18 years for Farmington Oil Co. delivering oil, for SAD 9 doing maintenance and driving school bus and was a former volunteer fireman for the Farmington Fire Department.
He enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR racer, Dale Earnhardt Sr., and the Red Sox baseball games. He loved fishing in the early spring at Clearwater Lake with Harold Judkins and hunting on New Vineyard Mountain.
He also enjoyed the Strong Elementary schoolchildren who helped him to plant the seedlings for the vegetable garden at Edgewood Manor.
He is survived by his son, Peter L. Durrell, and his wife, Debra, of Farmington; two granddaughters, Heather and Hannah Durrell of Farmington; his daughter, Terry Lawrence, and her husband, Leonard, of Farmington; many nieces and nephews; and his extended family at Edgewood Manor Rehab and Living Center.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Hutchins and Bernice Hall; four brothers, Wilfred, Calvin, Loren “Snooky” and Carl Durrell, and longtime friend, Harold “Jud” Judkins of Farmington.
