Kristina Lake, a 2000 graduate of Leavitt Area High School in Turner, a 2004 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and a third-year student at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, recently received the Alec R. and Martha C. Shapiro Dental Student Scholarship.

The scholarship, which was established by the late Dr. Alec R. Shapiro, a member of the first faculty of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, and his wife, Martha, was established to recognize overall achievement and is designed to provide significant financial assistance to a student during their studies at the School of Dental Medicine. The $10,000 scholarship was presented by Dr. Barry Feldman on behalf of the Shapiro family.
