Although much of the day-to-day paperwork is carried out by the deputy treasurer of the county, the Oxford County treasurer holds the overall responsibility for business conducted.

The treasurer must be bonded and is charged with investing funds received from tax anticipation notes prior to payment of county taxes by the towns. The treasurer also reconciles checking and savings accounts from the county each month. That number is now 19.

The treasurer oversees the deputy clerk and a part-time person who takes care of the county payroll, prepares budgets and attends county budget meetings.

The position makes sure all county bills are paid, including those for the unorganized territories, accepts fees, works with the county commissioners, and maintains financial records.

The part-time position will pay $11,461 in 2007.
