LEWISTON – On Oct. 27, after a long illness, Blanche Morrissette, 89, was called to be with her Lord and to be reunited with her beloved husband Sam. She had been a resident of d’Youville Pavilion for four and a half years, where she leaves many friends.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1916, in Black Lake, PQ, Canada, a daughter of Albert and Lydia (Bergeron) Gagne. At the age of 7, her family immigrated first to New Hampshire, and then to Maine, where she was educated in local schools.

In 1935, she married Anselme Morrissette at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, where they were communicants for most of their 65 years of marriage. Except for a brief period of residency in Auburn, she and Anselme were residents of Lewiston, where they also had several family members residing on both sides of the family.

She was employed for many years at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston as a nurses’ aide, where she made numerous friends from both hospital staff and patients. In addition to being a great mother and caregiver, she also became a close friend to many in the church, and greatly loved by her four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Marcel Morrissette, and wife, Jocelyne, of Harrison; grandchildren, Christine Wallace and husband, Steve, of Standish with their children, Courtney and Lauren, Scott Morrissette, and wife, Francine, of Windham with their children Kyah and Marissa, Cathryn Bonica, and husband, Michael, of Standish and children Lucas, Olivia and Jack, Todd Morrissette, and wife, Kathleen, of Scarborough and children Peyton, Lillian and Greta; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in July 2000; sisters, Marie Ange and Florence; and brothers, Wilfred and Treffle.
