LEWISTON – Roy J. Hodsdon, 73, of Canton Point Road, Dixfield, died Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Rumford on Feb. 13, 1933, a son of Philo and Alice (Taylor) Hodsdon, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1951.

During the Korean War he served as an Sp2 U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956 and was recipient of several medals including marksman and later received the rating of E-5 in the reserves.

He started working at Boise Cascade Paper in 1951 as an hourly worker and then served salaried positions, including superintendent of No. 12 paper machine and retired as a foreman in 1989.

He was a member of the Rumford United Methodist Church, the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion. He was a NASCAR race fan, enjoyed RV-ing, boating and tending to his birds. He was an accomplished mechanic who ran an auto repair shop from his home for several years. He also was a skilled carpenter. He had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by all.

He was married in West Peru on Oct. 25, 1987, to the former Marion Wasilauskis who survives of Dixfield. Other survivors include three sons, Kim Hodsdon, and wife, Kathy, of Belgrade, Keith Hodsdon, and wife, Debbie, of Kersey, Pa., and Lee Hodsdon of Ridge Spring, S.C.; two stepchildren, Norman Young III, and wife, Michelle, of Dixfield and Melissa Young of Byron; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray F. Hodsdon, and wife, Elaine, of Berwick and Roscoe C. Hodsdon, and wife, Lucille, of Roxbury.

He was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Hodsdon.
