My friends in Franklin County tell me Chandler Woodcock is a nice guy, a former teacher and coach.

But, would you really want him as your governor? A Republican political pollster called Woodcock a “radical social conservative, archconservative and out of the mainstream.” Let me share what he is against.

He would cut MaineCare. Seventy percent of MaineCare goes to the elderly and the disabled.

He is anti-evolution and would mandate teaching of intelligent design.

He is against cell research.

He is against the rights of citizens to make their own decisions about medical care.

He is against the Dirigo Health insurance program, a first step toward universal health coverage for all citizens.

He is against raising the minimum wage. He voted against it twice.

He is against equal rights to those other than heterosexual to parental responsibilities, financial loans, mortgages, inheritance, etc.

He is against environmental laws. (He voted against a bond proposal to help clean up Maine’s environment.)

Being a nice guy doesn’t necessarily make one a good governor. Being against so many of those things that most Maine citizens want and need would make one a bad governor.
