ISLAND POND, Vt. (AP) – A ground and air search ended successfully Monday night when two moose hunters last heard from Saturday evening were found unhurt.
Peter Thayer, 47, of Burlington, and Robert Couture, 39, of Colchester, were last seen at the Clyde River Motel, where they were staying, at midmorning Saturday, police said, adding that they were last heard from when Couture spoke by phone with his girlfriend Saturday evening.
Police on Monday announced that they had launched a search for the men, distributing pictures of Thayer and Couture and a description of their pickup truck.
“They’ve been found and they’re fine,” said a dispatcher on duty at the state police barracks in Derby.
, adding that the men were located not far from where they were last seen when searchers spotted their campfire.
There was no word on whether the men got a moose.
