One of the greatest problems we humans face in this world is animal extinction. Animals have been endangered for many centuries. We endanger animals by pollution, by destroying their habitats and by hunting them down.
I want to bring up a new way I found how humans kill animals.
I have driven to Bangor twice while living in Maine. I first went to Bangor as a school trip in May. On the way there, I noticed several dead animals lying on the turnpike. People had run over them while driving. At the end of the trip, I was very amazed at how many dead animals I saw.
I went to Bangor again this month to buy a car from a family. This time, I decided to count how many animals I saw that had died that day on the turnpike. I counted 12 by the time I got to Bangor. Assuming that’s an average day’s kill, that would mean about 84 animals are killed by vehicles weekly just on I-95 to Bangor. Imagine how many animals we kill in the whole state or the country.
People need to be very careful when driving. We need to look out for animals crossing streets and roads. Their brains don’t function like ours. That is why they don’t know any better.
