SOUTH PARIS – Orrin Spiller Hamilton, 76, of North Yarmouth, died Nov. 1, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Portland, to William L. and Meda Spiller Hamilton.
He received his training for his lifelong profession of refrigeration repairman/electrician while serving in the Army. He was a member of the 526th Engr. Maint. Det. He was honorably discharged in 1952, after having achieved the rank of corporal. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a 42-year lifetime member of the American Legion Post 86 in Gray. He was proud to have marched in the Gray and New Gloucester Memorial Day parades carrying our country’s flag for many years.
His membership in the Freemason’s was extensive; he was a 52-year member of the Casco Lodge 36 Yarmouth, an honorary member of Lodge Cumberland 12 F & AM in New Gloucester, a member of the Boaz Royal Arch Chapter 72 at New Gloucester, he was elected and served as excellent high priest, he served Grand Royal Arch Capter of Maine as master of the 1st Vail, grand steward, and was grand representative of Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Germany to Grand Royal Arch Chapter in Maine, he was a past president of the Council Order of High Priesthood in Maine, he was a member of Dunlap Council 8 Royal and Select Masters of Maine, a member of Lewiston Commandery 6 Knights Templar.
He worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) for more than 18 years. He later became a partner in WEB Electric in Gray. He also worked in the Greater Portland area for various electrical and refrigeration companies until he retired in 1994.
He was a family man who enjoyed his dog Rex, gardening and caring for the land. He took great pride in his home.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, C. “Pat” Hamilton of North Yarmouth; his son, Ray Hamilton of New Gloucester; his daughters, Carolyn Price of Waldorf, Md. and Pamela Hines of New Gloucester; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four stepdaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Orrin Jr.; a grandson, Roger A. Hines; and several siblings.
