AUBURN – Helen M. Boulay, 106, a resident of 460 Minot Ave., formerly of 37 Manley St., died peacefully Thursday, Nov. 2, with family by her side at Clover Manor Health Care Facility.

She was born in South Portland June 20, 1900, the daughter of Charles and Annie (Yeaton) Wheeler. She moved to Wells, where she attended eight grades. When her father died, she moved to Portland and attended night school. She graduated Cum Laude in 1924 from Kents Hill Seminary. She taught school in Fayette and the Readfield area before moving to Auburn in 1927. She was employed by H.G. Lumbard, and Lumbard and Watson for 25 years and then at Crossman’s and Snow’s.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Auburn, and the Women’s Society. She enhanced her great sewing ability through joining the extension group in Auburn. Volunteering was her nature at Webster School, and for 10 years at the Warehouse for Hope, and two years at the Search Program. Her association of volunteering at Central Maine Medical Center began in 1979, where she completed 10,758 hours as of May 21, 2003.

On her 105th birthday, she was honored by an official expression of sentiment from the state of Maine, which was presented to her by Rep. Margaret Craven.

Survivors include a one niece, Beverly West, and her husband, Urban, of Wilton; and one nephew, Winston S. Greaton, and his wife, Mary, of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Everett C. Whittemore on Sept. 18, 1955, whom she married in 1927; and Edward J. Boulay, who died Dec. 30, 2003, whom she married in 1960.

The family would like to thank the staff at Clover Health Care and Beacon Hospice for the loving care which they extended to Helen during the last several months.
