1. After years of sitting on the sidelines, it is time for me to repay the people for the pleasure and privilege it has been to live in Lewiston, Maine. These are difficult times and citizens must step forward and work for the betterment of our city and state.
2. We must invest in our future by providing an educated workforce that will attract high quality businesses to Maine. And we must care for those who, due to circumstances beyond their control, cannot care for themselves: children and seniors, in particular.
3. I fully support property tax relief for Lewiston families and seniors, but I do not support TABOR. Its inflexibility will force us to cut critical services: education, health care, heating assistance for the elderly. Such services can’t wait for a two-thirds vote of the Legislature, nor months before a costly referendum takes place.
4. I don’t believe Mainers want to discriminate against anyone. I stand totally for equal rights for all Maine citizens. I believe serious medical decisions should be made by women and their doctors.
5. I think Dirigo Health is an excellent idea, but it needs to be altered to provide more meaningful and affordable health coverage for those it is designed to help.
