PORTLAND – Roland Arthur LaCourse, 84, of Lookout Lane, Windham, died on Nov. 2, at the Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 26, 1922, a son of William and Tillie (Adler) LaCourse.

As a child he attended schools in Lewiston.

He proudly served his country during World War II by enlisting into the U.S. Army.

During the war, he was present at Normandy (D+10), throughout France, Holland and Belguim. After the European Theatre had completed, his unit was preparing to be deployed to the Pacific Theatre, however, Japan surrendered before deployment.

For 33 years, he continued to serve his country by working fulltime with the National Guard. During his service, he was stationed throughout the country and retired at the Westbrook National Guard base.

He was a member of the VFW South Portland Post 832, the American Legion in Portland, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed watching football and especially enjoyed watching Notre Dame play. He also enjoyed traveling, being in the outdoors fishing, hunting in his earlier days, doing yard work and gardening.

He is survived by three sons, Rod LaCourse of Naples Fla., Mark LaCourse of East Waterboro and Jeffrey LaCourse of Wahington, D.C.; his ex-wife, Mildred LaCourse; a granddaughter, Jeanette Garvilles, and her husband, Titus, of Saco; and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Garvilles.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Mary LaCourse; and his siblings.
