WINDHAM – Raymond E. “Ray” Karpowitz, 61, of Meadowview Road, died on Friday, Nov. 3, at a Portland hospital.

Born in Newark, N.J., on Nov. 12, 1944, he was the son of Edward and Julia (Lasiewski) Karpowitz and was raised in Harrison, N.J. Ray attended the Newark College of Engineering, graduating from there in 1966 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

For 40 years, Ray was employed for Philips Electronics and Elmet Technologies of Lewiston.

He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Windham Drifters Snowmobile Club. An avid New York Giants fan, he also enjoyed NASCAR racing, golf, boating on Sebago Lake with his family, camping and most any outdoor activity.

Surviving are his wife, Diane L. Karpowitz of Windham; two sons, Alan E. Karpowitz of Lewiston and Steven J. Karpowitz of Windham; one brother, Robert Karpowitz of Brick, N.J.; and one sister, Julia Stultz, also of Brick, N.J.
