AUBURN – The Androscoggin County Democratic Committee Biennial Awards dinner was held recently at the Fireside Inn.

Guest speaker was State Sen. Elizabeth (Libby) Mitchell and special guests included Gov. John E. Baldacci, U.S. Congressman Michael Michaud and U.S. Congressman Tom Allen. Also attending were Maine Attorney General Steve Rowe, Maine Auditor Neria Douglass and U.S. Senate candidate Jean Hay-Bright.

Maine Senate and House guests included Senate President Bath Edmonds, Sens. Peggy Rotundo and Phil Bartlett; House Majority Leader Glen Cummings, Elaine Makas, Lillian O’Brien, Will Walcott, Deb Simpson, Nancy Smith, Sean Faircloth and Hannah Pingree. Several candidates for the Senate, House, county and cities of Lewiston and Auburn were present.

The highlight was the presentation of the county awards. The Mae Parker Award for a long-time outstanding party volunteer was presented to Mary Roussel. The Al Gamache/Jackie Poirier Award was given to Roland and Diane Poirier in recognition to an outstanding volunteer new to the county committee, and the Ken Curtis Award for outstanding service as an elected official was presented to Makas. A special award was given to Claudette Violette as Volunteer of the Year.

The Androscoggin County Democratic Committee meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the campaign office of Congressman Mike Michaud, 213 Lisbon St. All Democrats are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Nancy at 782-5704.
