1. In the past four years, the quality of life for Mainers has been gradually diminished. This has come in the form of a higher tax burden, more expensive health care, and an erosion of personal income. People are looking to Augusta for leadership and answers. It is for these reasons that I am stepping forward to accomplish this.

2. My top priority will be to bring prosperity back to Maine people. This can be accomplished by lowering the tax burden, lowering the cost of health insurance, and by creating a positive business climate, resulting in higher wage jobs.

3. I support TABOR and only see positive effects from it passing. It limits the increase in spending to the rate of inflation plus growth in population. Most families face similar challenges with their personal budgets. It is a mark of fiscal responsibility. Why should government be any different?

4. Social issues are always important to people, even if they are not a top priority. It is always important for voters to know where their legislator stands. Your senator represents the will of the people. In 1999, 68 percent of Lewiston voters were against partial birth abortions. I support the ban.

5. A measure of effectiveness is defined as costs versus benefits. In two years, Dirigo has served 8,100 people, costing taxpayers $53 million. Compared to the 110,000-person goal, one would rationally describe it a dismal failure. We should look at other states that successfully keep premiums low.
