Despite the fine weather and several hotly contested city council races, Lewiston voters turned out in about the same numbers as their counterparts throughout the state Tuesday, while Auburn’s voter turnout appeared to well exceed the state average.
Forty-two percent, or 10,860, of Lewiston’s 25,860 registered voters went to the polls Tuesday, a number which compared to unofficial returns from throughout the state.
In Auburn, which unlike Lewiston had a highly visible mayoral race this year, an estimated 6,925 of the city’s 13,623 voters hit the polls to register their choices. Although two wards had not posted their final totals early Wednesday morning, the estimated total represents a 51 percent voter turnout.
