1. I’ve always wanted to run for the Legislature but professional and family responsibilities took precedence. Now that I am retired and my family has grown and moved elsewhere, I have more flexibility and a passion for the issues facing our state. I love Maine and want the very best for our citizens.

2. The economy is the major priority facing our state. It is important to improve our economic conditions and become a magnet for business and better paying jobs. Doing so will enable us to deal with problems associated with an aging population, the escalating cost of government services and the loss of young people to more inviting economic environments.

3. TABOR would limit spending and satisfy those who feel government has not been responsive to the voters. It would deliver an outcome which has been impossible to achieve independent of this law. If passed, members of the Legislature have a moral and legal responsibility to live within the framework of the law.

4. I ardently support anti-discrimination legislation as I respect and value all people equally. I support the Supreme Court decision of a woman’s right to choose but firmly believe that the number of abortions be reduced, especially through educational programs.

5. Dirigo Health was created with good intentions, but participation is disappointing and financing and savings are being questioned. Industry experts, partnered with government, should restructure Dirigo. I support competition, reducing state mandates and view any “universal care” initiative as a responsibility of the federal government.
