AUBURN – Romeo G. Picard, 78, of Bennett Road, New Gloucester, died Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.

He was born in St. Agathe, July 17, 1928, the son of Gilbert and Alma Chamberland Picard.

He was educated in local schools and was married on April 11, 1953, to Lillian Huff.

He was employed as a shoe cutter for 41 years, retiring from Sebago Moc in Westbrook.

After his retirement, he joined the staff of Eastgate Christian School and Fellowship as their beloved janitor.

He was a very giving and loving person who enjoyed making others happy, especially with his wonderful sense of humor and the ability to tell a great joke. He also kept his pockets full of candy to sweeten everyone’s day and had affectionately been known as the “Candy Man.”

He enjoyed listening to classical music along with the company of his “Best Pal” Amos, the family dog, who predeceased him last week.

He had committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ more than 25 years ago and remained faithful in his love and devotion to serving Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian, of New Gloucester; a stepson, Richard W. Benner, and wife, Diana, of California; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, George E. Picard.
