AUBURN – SHAREcenter will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the center in the Great Falls Arts Building, Academy Street. The public is invited to join for Maine Recycles Week, celebrated Nov. 8 to 15.

Student and area youth creations made with the 2006 theme “Rethink – Recycle – Rediscover” will be on display to demonstrate the educational value of hands-on learning materials donated by area businesses.

SHAREcenter is a nonprofit supply center for schools, community programs and home schoolers. Its newest program, the GREEN ZONE, is also open to the public.

A scavenger hunt will be held at SHAREcenter during the open house. Prizes will include gift certificates to Day’s Jewelry Store and to SHAREcenter’s GREEN ZONE. Light refreshments will be offered.

Fifty-seven schools and 35 nonprofits collected materials, books and furniture from SHAREcenter during the year, coming from the L/A area as well as from Boothbay to Freeport and from Brunswick to Farmington.

More than $250,000 in materials was given out, saving money for schools and programs such as Scouts and Head Start, as well as diverting items to good uses. People interested in becoming business donors, volunteers and members can get more information at the center, which is in its 15th year.

An open house will be held at the Topsham SHAREcenter from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9. The satellite center is located in Building 376 on Republic Avenue across from the entrance to Mt. Ararat Middle School. A scavenger hunt, prizes, displays and refreshments will be offered there as well. Contact director Diane Doe at 795-0972 for more information.
