WHERE THE MONEY GOES: For every $100 wagered, Hollywood Slots pays back about $93 to bettors. The remaining $7 goes to the casino. Of that amount, Hollywood Slots says it keeps roughly half and gives the other half to the state and the city of Bangor.

DIVVYING IT UP: The state’s share is split up for gambling control administration, harness racing purses, health care programs, college scholarships, agricultural fairs and other programs.

WHAT’S AHEAD: In 2008, Penn National Gaming plans to replace the temporary Hollywood Slots facility with a permanent 116,000-square-foot casino with 1,000 slot machines and the capacity for 1,500. It’ll have a hotel, three restaurants, an entertainment lounge, a gift shop and a parking garage for 1,500 vehicles.
