Club to meet

PARIS – The Extra Mile ATV Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the town office.

Board game play

NORWAY – The Norway Memorial Library will offer an afternoon of board game play for children in grades one through six from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, an early release day in SAD 17, in the library’s multi-purpose room.

A variety of games will be available, from chess and checkers to Scrabble and Monopoly. The library will provide the games and cider; children are encouraged to bring a snack. Preregistration is required. To register or for more information, call the library’s children’s department at 743-5308.

Coffee hour

NORWAY – The Norway Historical Society will hold a coffee hour at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at 471 Main St. The society is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Saturday supper

NORWAY – The Norway Fireman’s Relief Association will hold a Veterans Day supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the fire station. Menu will include roast beef, salads, vegetables, rolls, beverages and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 children under 12; under age 6 are free.

Holiday fair

PARIS – A Christmas fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church.

There will be baked goods, Christmas items, commission table and a white elephant table. Coffee and doughnuts will be available.

Hunter’s breakfast

PARIS – The Norway/Paris Lions Club will hold a hunter’s breakfast from 5 to 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Paris Fire Station, Western Avenue. The cost will be $5 a person. The menu will consist of scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, baked beans, hash browns, munchkins, toast, juice, coffee, tea and milk.

If anyone is interested in becoming a member, the club is seeking members. The club meets the first and third Monday of the month in the basement of the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church, corner of Main and Church streets. Meetings begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.

Christmas fair

HARTFORD – The annual Country Christmas Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Hartford Town Hall, Route 140.

There will be crafts, Christmas gifts, food and stocking stuffers. Coffee, tea, cocoa, and sandwiches will also be available. It is being sponsored by the Hartford Community Church Women’s Group

Heywood Club

NORWAY – The Heywood Club of Norway will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the clubhouse on Crockett Ridge Road.

Members will finalize plans for the Christmas celebration and discuss plans for upcoming meetings. Charles Longley of the Norway Historical Society will be the guest speaker.

Scholarship

PARIS – Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of women educators, has as one of its goals to help recognize women in education and promote professional growth. Zeta Chapter will award a $300 scholarship to one recipient this year.

Applicants must be women who have completed their freshman year of college, are going into the field of teaching and come from a town in one of the following school districts: SAD 17, 21, 39, 43, 44, Union 21 or the town of Peru. Applicants should submit a letter telling about their educational background, future plans and why they feel they would be a good recipient. The deadline is Thursday, Nov. 30. AARP to meet

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the Haskell House next door to the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. There will be no luncheon. Dessert and coffee will be available. Speaker will be Wendy Legg Pollock, Extension educator from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. She will talk about diabetes.

Potluck supper

WATERFORD – A community potluck supper will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Wilkins Community House, Plummer Hill Road.

All are welcome to attend and to bring a dish to share. Beverage and rolls will be provided. The hosts for this month will be Karen Wright and Lois Grigg.

Legion meeting

WEST PARIS – Ring-McKeen Post 151, American Legion, and Auxiliary met Oct. 24 at the hall on Maple Street for a 6:30 p.m. supper, followed by a business meeting.

It was voted to have a float for the Old Home Days parade. Carol Corriveau will do an art exhibit again, and artist Ruth Friburg, whose son is in Iraq, donated a painting to be raffled off to benefit the veterans.

Members commended Nicholas Diconzo for doing an Eagle Scout project of placing a new flag pole, flag and sign at the Agnes L. Gray School. He will receive a special award at a Legion meeting on Jan. 23, preceded by a 6:30 p.m. supper.

Showcase set

WEST PARIS – The second annual West Paris Community Showcase and Craft Fair wiill be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Agnes Gray gym, Main Street. Following, at 5 p.m. a Christmas parade will form.

This year’s event will follow the same guidelines with area for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations setting up displays and food booths and local artisans selling their crafts. Last year’s nonprofit organizations are invited to join again, as are all others who would like to participate. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will drop in to ask children their Christmas wishes.

To schedule display space, call Lisa at 674-2127. The fees collected will help with a community project. Display spaces will be $5 if people supply their own table and $10 if the event committee supplies the table.
