Title: “Down the Rabbit Hole”

Author: Peter Abrahams

Genre: Murder/Mystery

I picked this book up, thinking it would be just like all the other Maine student book award books I’d read: boring. The name “Steven King” caught my eye on the cover, and I quote: “My all-time favorite. Astonishing” by Mr. King. Well, that was something.

As I got further and further into the plot, my suspicions flew from character to character, from coincidence, to truth. The main character, Ingrid, was a female Sherlock Holmes. (Coincidentally, that is her idol.)

The title comes from the play Ingrid stars in. “Alice In Wonderland.” She is able to compare circumstances quite well between the production and the mystery.

It all started when Kate Kovac, known as “Cracked up Kalie,” is murdered the day after Ingrid, lost on her way to soccer practice, stops by her house. From there on the plot twists and turns, spiraling until you can’t stop but find out who the real villain is. Several times during the book, I groaned out loud at the unfairness of Mrs. Groome, and sat shocked after Ty, Ingrid’s older jock brother, punches her in the face

I would say that this is a book for people over 11, because there is some complicated grammar and comparisons, and you have to follow along all the way to enjoy it.

Out of ten stars, I give it a ten. 100% all the way.
