FARMINGTON – Police are looking for a Jay woman who reported she was robbed of hundreds of dollars outside a store Sunday and the man who took her money, police Lt. Jack Peck said Monday.

The officer said the woman was walking from Ken and Sadie’s store in Farmington Falls to her car about 4 p.m. Sunday when a man stole her money. The woman rushed to her car, called police and drove after the man, who had jumped into the passenger’s seat of a waiting car and was whisked away.

The woman stayed on the phone with police as she followed the robber from Farmington Falls, to New Sharon, and toward Starks, Peck said.

Apparently, the getaway driver pulled the car to the side of a road, and the woman pulled hers in behind it, Peck said. The robber jumped out and drove a knife into one of her car tires, jumped back into the getaway car and was off again, he said.

The woman took off in pursuit “now with only three tires instead of four,” the lieutenant said.

Franklin County Deputy Michelle St. Clair caught up to the cars in Starks. The robber jumped out and ran into the woods and was not found by police and a tracking dog.

The getaway car’s driver, who was not identified, has not been charged, Peck said.

The woman, who told police she had been living in Jay, gave them her name, a post office box address in Dixfield, a home phone number that had been disconnected, and a cell phone number that had a full message box, Peck said. She gave them an initial statement, he said, but police are trying to find her to get more details of the incident for their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Farmington Police Department at 778-6311.
