The Littles have done their duty raising awareness about the Androscoggin River – Little Phillip even died for the cause. Twice.

So, with the election over, it’s time for an aquatic reprieve. They’re going into retirement, and into conventional water.

Little John, Pat, Chan and Barbara will be out of the spotlight, swimming around without the real-time speculation of who would cork next, but they’ll not be out of politics entirely.

Political reporter David Farmer’s young children, Addie, 3, and Elias, 1, are assuming the new role of the Littles’ campaign (and tank) managers.

We expect to be apprised should any of them form a PAC, swap parties or join Phillip.

To highlight water-quality issues with the Androscoggin River, the Sun Journal plunked five goldfish in a tank of water from the Andy and named them after the candidates for governor – the people with the power to make change.
