HADLEY, Mass. – Bates College juniors Duane Pelz and Rob Munro were both named to the All-NESCAC Second Team in men’s soccer. The announcement came from conference officials Thursday, the first such honor for both players.
Pelz, of Boulder, CO, directed the Bates attack from the center midfield position, scoring three goals to go with a team-high six assists. His two game-winning goals put him in a tie for eighth in NESCAC competition.
Munro, of Walpole, Mass., earned the starting goalkeeper’s job midway through the 2006 season. He got off to a strong start and finished with a 5-1-2 record, posting three shutouts.
The Bobcats finished the season with an 8-6-2 overall record.
Ray named to D3Hoops.com team
NORWALK, Conn. – Bates College senior Zak Ray has been selected a preseason Honorable Mention All-America player by D3Hoops.com.
Ray, a 5-11 point guard from Bangor, is one of 25 men’s basketball players in Division III to receive preseason All-America honors, and the only player from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
Ray averaged 12.4 points, 5.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game last season, as the Bobcats won a school record 20 games and lost only six. He is a two-time All-NESCAC selection and was Co-Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
