FARMINGTON – The Rev. Susan Crane, pastor of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, was honored as a Community Partner by Western Maine Community Action during the agency’s recent annual meeting.

Crane was nominated for the recognition by the agency’s energy and housing resources staff.

She is a founding member of Poverty Busters, a local group of clergy who develop strategies and programs to serve low income residents of Franklin County.

The group created the Franklin Area Ecumenical Heating Fund to assist those who are in crisis with heating costs. Crane serves as treasurer of the fund and works with the agency energy and housing staff who administer it.

In making the award, Paul Brown, president of the board, noted Crane’s advocacy on behalf of low income residents and “the key role Susan has played in the growth of the FAE heating fund.

He said, “In the 2005-06 heating season, the fund helped 76 households with 205 individuals and distributed $18,576 to our communities. It is active and growing again this fall. We are grateful for this community partnership.”
