I am writing as a concerned parent about an issue that really needs to be addressed. This is regarding the new skate park that recently opened. I am a parent of a skater, and I am compelled to write because these kids have waited a long time for the park, and already some local kids are trying to ruin it.
There is no monitoring at the park, so these kids are being very mean and disrespectful to the skaters, who just want to skate. A group of skaters complained to the police department and were told there is nothing the police can do – it is a public park.
Did the city of Lewiston and all of the sponsors spend all that money for the park to get destroyed, and for the skaters to get harrassed? It’s ridiculous.
It’s a park to skateboard, not a local hangout to cause trouble. Something should be done before matters get worse. City officials or the police department should really take a look at the situation before it gets out of hand.
I have to believe that all the people who worked so hard to get the park off the ground wouldn’t want it destroyed, or for the skaters to feel unwelcome.
Let’s try to come together as a community to say the harassment has got to stop. I hope everyone takes notice.
