RUMFORD – Incumbent Oxford County Treasurer Mary Ann Prue defeated challenger Norman F. Ferguson Jr. on Tuesday 12,188 to 11,237 for reelection to a four-year term.
Prue, a Democrat and former town clerk and treasurer for Rumford, has held the part-time position that is responsible for the county’s finances for 10 years.
Republican Ferguson, a former Oxford County commissioner and state senator, was making his first bid for county treasurer.
Prue, a Rumford resident, carried her hometown by a vote of more than 2 to 1, 1,814-755. Ferguson, a Hanover resident, carried his hometown also by more than 2 to 1, 105-48.
Mexico supported Prue 794-361, as did Peru, at 462-228 and Dixfield, 616-389, among other towns.
Ferguson outpaced Prue in Bethel, 704-542, Oxford, 750-700, Albany, 114-89 and Fryeburg, 701-426, among other towns.
“I am so proud and happy that I have the loyal support and confidence of the voters of Oxford County. I am proud of my victory,” said Prue. “It’s always been an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Oxford County.”
