I was happy to see Rebecca Goldfine’s article “Recycling needs a jump-start” in the Nov. 7 Sun Journal. I agree with Alison McCrady’s comments regarding the need for everyone to recycle. It is a very serious matter. However, I would go a step further and point out those items which can be recycled can be a blessing to some, if put back into use, and other not reusable items can be deposited with the Oxford Regional Solid Waste Corp. collection bins just down the hill. It can make a big difference regarding the cost of operation.
There are two other areas which can help tremendously to eliminate useful items from the waste stream to be put back into use. The Salvation Army has bins down the hill from the dumping site where clothing can be deposited.
And there is Ruby’s Gold Mine, where useful household items are received on Saturdays and Sundays, thereby avoiding the necessity of having to destroy them when they can be used by persons who have a real need. This, too, is an attempt to recycle and help our communities to eliminate waste as well as to assist those in need.
