AUGUSTA – The Maine USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Cross Country State Championship will be held Sunday, Nov. 12 at the University of Maine at Augusta. Open and Masters events are also on the docket.
Races will take place in the following age groups: 10-under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, Open (19-29) and Masters (ages 30 and over at 5-year intervals). The first race will start at 9 a.m. (Open and Masters 5K).
Registration begins at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $5. USATF registration is rquired and can be obtained on race day. Runners in the Junior Olympic competition should bring a copy of their birth certificate.
Course maps will be available. The first Junior Olympic race will start at 10 a.m. (10-under), and the other races will follow at 30-minute intervals.
Waivers will be available for the Maine athletes competing in the New England Championship. Those runners should contact Ron Kelly at 883-2747, or e-mail rkelly01@maine.rr.com.
The top 20 individuals and the top 3 clubs in Junior Olympic competition will qualify for the Region 1 Championship Meet slated for November 19 at Queensbury High School in New York.
